Stuart Reid

Mr. Stuart Reid became involved with the Southern Nevada Golf Association in 1979, and immediately worked to help improve the number and quality of the local amateur tournaments. In essence, he could be called the Father of the SNGA organization that is in operation today. With the assistance of the management and professionals of the area golf courses, Mr. Reid was able to develop the first official SNGA calendar of events for the Clark County area. A short time later, Mr. Reid and other board members worked to create the first SNGA Points System that is used to determine the Player of the Year and also assist with the selection of players for selected SNGA regional and national events and teams. In 1985, Mr. Reid was appointed to the Amateur Public Links Committee of the United States Golf Association and served on that committee for 20 years. He also began to attend rigorous USGA Rules Seminars to learn more about the Rules of Golf and how to administer them at Championships. He brought that knowledge back to the SNGA and began a training program for other directors. In 1987, Mr. Reid served as a Rules Official at the U.S. Senior Open Championship in Connecticut, and then served on the Rules Committee at the 1988 U.S. Open Championship at the Country Club in Boston. He went to serve as a Rules Official at the U.S. Open Championship for 18 years. All in all, he served on the Rules Committee at more than 50 National Championships that included the NCAA Division I, Amateur Public Links Championship, U.S. Senior Open Championship, and the U.S. Open Championship. As a Walking Rules Official, he worked with many of his heroes including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh, and John Daly to name a few. He was also honored to have the opportunity to work with the legendary P.J. Boatwright at several events prior to his passing and learned a great deal from him to say the least.
